I wish the journalists knew that there is a simple way to produce billions of dollars of long-term funding for social causes. There is a way to harness the power of Capitalism for the Common Good that avoids government spending, taxes, stimuli, or bailouts. In the midst of the debate over which individuals should receive corporate bonuses, we should be asking companies to grant Social Bonuses that will benefit the public interest. Companies can donate warrants to charity – something that doesn’t cost them anything to give – and get a deferred tax deduction for the value of the gift.
More attention definitely needs to be paid to funding operational costs for nonprofits. It's hard to run a program when it has no location or the location doesn't have running water or electricity.

Everyone loves the "warm fuzzies" that come from program-specific funding, but there's nothing comforting about organizations disbanding due to lack of operational support.

Those of us that work in nonprofits are dedicated, committed and pretty darn smart -- smart enough to know that if those supports aren't in place, we may have to take our skills elsewhere. Let's hope that the recent trend toward collaboration eliminates the need for us to make that decision.
